One of the best places I’ve ever worked, Sugar was absolutely brilliant. I was a staffer on the teen magazine for just six months before it closed down (that sounds bad, but honestly it wasn’t anything to do with me). (I hope).
Interviews included: Olly Murs, JLS, Alex Pettyfer, one of the gypsies from My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding and…One Direction. We were the first mag to get an exclusive interview with the band after they’d been on The X Factor. Ooh, get us. (Pictorial evidence below.)
I am still sad that Sugar is no more. It was irreverent, funny and gave advice to teenagers in a totally non-patronising way. It was the market leader right up until the end.
Luckily the genius website sugarscape.com has gone from strength to strength so the brand is still alive and well.
A few examples of my work are below with more to come. Just click on the image to be redirected to a PDF of the article.
more!
I worked on and off for more! for several months in 2011. Guttingly (is that a real word?) it closed in 2013. Lots of my colleagues and friends started their careers on this fortnightly-and-then-weekly title and have very fond memories of this trail-blazing title.
A selection of work is below. The first one, called ‘Why we love our naked bodies’, is one of the real life features I’m most proud of completed for any magazine – what extraordinary, brave, inspiring women.
